INDIANAPOLIS - If you have an Indiana drivers license you may want to get out your social security card.
The Bureau of Motor Vehicles said if the information on those cards don't match, you could lose your license.
The BMV recently updated its computer system and is now joining 47 other states that have the ability to verify information directly through the social security administration.
Your name, gender, and date of birth now need to be exact matches in both systems.
"The benefits of moving to this new tool instead of using the current tool is it's more up to date, more accurate. It's from the social security administration itself, so there's less risk of turning away someone you shouldn't be turning away," said Ron Stiver the BMV Commissioner.
Currently, there are about 206,000 records on file that don't match up to what the social security administration has in its files.
Beginning next week, the BMV will send out letters to people affected.
If you don't update your license within several weeks, it will be revoked.
